Studio The New Workspace by Michou Nanon-de Bruijn of Studio Makkink & Bey (2020/2021)
Under the situation of Co-Vid 9 and necessary restrictions, the first-year students from INSIDE are challenged to create their workspace in a public environment.
Through internships and research among interior, semi-public and public places, they were inspired to build relationship between material and space from a public perspective, which greatly expand the boundary of workspace.
This studio was guided by Michou Nanon-de Bruijn of Studio Makkink & Bey.
Studio I
As the school year in September 2020 started, Studio I was the first project to get to know our classmates.
Due corona was mobility-limited so working on the project outside was thus a good challenge to investigate in public space within its restrictions. Going out in these times is liberating and a bit exciting extending our comfort zones and borders.

Student’s approach to the project was very personal and finding based, which gave also a great diversity of observations where methods applied through:
material, smell, sound, conversations, imaginations, teamwork, technicality but sometimes also a bit of bravery was needed.
Our teacher’s personal approach to the individual projects and her eagerness of getting into the details and the core of the process is a great quality for a teacher and I’m really grateful for that.
