Master Interior Architecture

26 November 2013, Simone de Waart (Material Sense)

Simone de Waard
Simone de Waart (1967) industrial designer, is the founder of Material Sense. In 1994 she graduated at the design academy of Eindhoven. She was one of driving forces behind the Dutch Design Week as chairman and co-initiator of Design Platform Eindhoven. In 2002 she started Material Sense, making a network of material-based designers and projects.
Material Sense is about the feeling of materials and about designing with materials as starting point. Material Sense stimulates designers to begin researching new materials, how they work and to design based on the material values. Materials, in the end, influence the user experience more then all other aspects.
A good example of their working methods is the moving materials nr. 305; Sound Curtain. On textile has been stitched an electric circuit that can power either flat speakers or LED patterns.
